While basking in the beauty that is Vernazza, I reached over to take a sip of the wine our waiter recommended and knew that I found my new wine. I was so impressed with the crisp taste and uniqueness that I made it my mission to find a bottle to bring home.
Since that summer of 2015, I have made it a point to educate myself on the world of Vermentino. It’s not as commonplace in the US as the other traditional whites, like Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. These other wines pale in comparison to Vermentino. I’ve learned there is a Tuscan version and a Sardinian version. I’m personally partial to the Tuscan versions, which I first experienced in Liguria and then again in Montalcino.
My current favorite is La Pettegola Vermentino from Banfi. I just scheduled a tour of their Tuscan vineyard for this summer and I can’t wait! Jeff sent me this article because he knows my love of Vermentino and that I too believe that Vermentino should be ‘Italy’s next great white’.
You don’t have to take my word for it. Follow the link below to hear what a wine expert has to say about Vermentino:

I shipped home a half dozen bottles this past summer and found myself holding onto them like, ‘my precious’. So I searched for a way to buy them in the States, in order to share my love of Vermentino with my friends and family. I’m happy to say that I did. For those of you familiar with Town and Country liquor stores in Western Mass, go grab yourself a bottle and enjoy the experience that is a Banfi Vermentino.
