Trastevere, Rome

Trastevere is my favorite section of Rome. When you’re done with the touristy stuff, this is where you go to chill. It has a completely different vibe than the rest of Rome. You won’t get harassed to go into restaurants, because they’re already filled with locals or Italians visiting from other parts of the country. You can simply meander down alleys and take in the beauty that is Trastevere.

TRASTEVERE TIPS AND INFO

  • Lunch: Osteria da Zi Umberto: Piazza di S. Giovanni della Malva, 14
  • Aperitivo: Freni e Frizoni: Via del Politeama, 4: A bar along the river that has an awesome aperitivo and yummy drinks. Please note, due to Covid restrictions in 2021 they did not have their usual buffet of deliciousness.
  • Pizza: L’Elementare: Via Benedetta, 23
  • Gelato: Fatamorgana: Via Roma Libera, 11
  • Nightlife: In the summer months, the Trastevere side of the Tiber River has a huge pop-up area. There are ton of bars, restaurants, and shops.
  • Villa Farnesina: Via della Lungara, 230: Beautiful Villa with fabulous art and architecture.

What an incredible part of Rome! It would have absolutely been missed if it weren’t for Elise and her blog suggesting it was worth a trip. A short walk from the hustle and bustle, Trastevere is a breath of fresh air. The go-go-go nature of Rome is brought to a trickle as you explore the winding streets filled with quaint shops and boutiques that have been little influenced by the outside world. A place locked in time and tradition.

The best drinks and food were in this part of the city and needless to say it was the highlight of our time. My wife and I have already discussed return trips to Rome and just how close to Trastevere we would be able to stay. Go for the ruins and grandeur of Rome, stay for the amazing people and vibe in this part of town.

Elise, thank you for all of the wonderful information suggestions and tips. Without it, we surely would not have had as an amazing time as we did.
